Band Name From Words Generator
This generator takes a comma-separated list of your own words and slots them into six proven band-name templates alongside curated pools of 14 adjectives ("Velvet", "Phantom", "Crimson", etc.) and 14 nouns ("Wolves", "Ghosts", "Embers", etc.). The six templates are: "The [YourWord] [Noun]", "[Adj] [YourWord]", "[YourWord] and the [Noun]", "The [Adj] [YourWord]s", "[YourWord] [Noun]", and "[Adj] [Noun]". Each template is chosen at random per iteration, with your words capitalised before insertion. A Set removes duplicate outputs, and the loop runs up to 400 attempts to fill the requested count. If you enter no words, the function falls back to the pool ["sound", "fire", "river"]. New bands use it to escape the blank-page stall when the name negotiation between members stalls. Podcast hosts, side-project collectives, and amateur sports teams also reach for it when they need something memorable that still connects to a concept they care about. Because your words are the stem of every template, the results stay semantically grounded in whatever you typed rather than being purely random. Entering words from different registers — a place name, an emotion, a concrete object — produces more varied output than entering synonyms. Enter up to 30 results per run and copy any names that sound good out loud before regenerating, since each run reshuffles independently. Searching your favourites on streaming platforms and social handles before committing is essential, as the generator has no visibility into existing band names.

FAQ
How exactly does each word I enter get used?
Your words are split on commas, trimmed of whitespace, and capitalised. Each is then inserted into one of six templates that the generator picks at random. For example, entering "river" could produce "The River Wolves" (template 1), "Velvet River" (template 2), or "River and the Saints" (template 3). Your words appear in every template that includes a YourWord slot, so a short input list will recur across many results.
What happens if I leave the word input blank?
The function detects an empty or whitespace-only input and falls back to the built-in list ["sound", "fire", "river"]. The generator will still produce band names, but they will be based on those three defaults rather than anything personal to you. For more tailored results, entering even a single word shifts the output meaningfully.
Why do results change every time I run it with the same words?
Templates are chosen at random each iteration, and so are the adjectives and nouns drawn from the built-in pools. The function fills a Set and discards duplicates, but the path to any given name is random, so consecutive runs with identical inputs produce different ordered lists. Copy names you want to keep before regenerating.
Does the generator check whether a name is already taken by another band?
No. The function has no access to external databases, streaming platforms, or trademark records. It is your responsibility to search the names you like on Spotify, Apple Music, social media, and trademark registries before using one publicly. This is especially important for any name you intend to register or commercialise.
What is the maximum number of names I can get per run?
The count input is capped at 30 by the function. The loop runs up to 400 iterations trying to fill that many unique names. With a small input word list and only six templates, the number of distinct combinations is limited, so the generator may return fewer than 30 results if the pool of non-duplicate combinations runs out before 400 tries.
